VOGUE Arabia launch commission

VOGUE Arabia Digital Launch

I still can’t believe I was asked to be a contributor for the launch of VOGUE Arabia‘s digital platform.

Talk about a true ‘pinch me moment’!

So, how on earth did I actually manage to bag that job? Well, it all comes down to a bit of luck I guess. It so happens that an ex-colleague of mine moved to the Middle East a few years back and she is now working for VOGUE as their launch art director. She’s been following my journey for a while and likes my style. So, she mailed out of the blue to ask if I would be interested in creating a special illustration for an article on breast cancer (which was going to be featured when they launched their digitial platform).

I think “Hell yes!” — was my instant response. Haha.

There was one major catch though: the deadline was tight. Like super tight.

I couldn’t turn down this opportunity, so I did everything I could to meet the deadline. I had three days to draw, colour and get my illustration signed-off by their art department. I have a full-time job, so it meant that I had to put in a few late nights. After a few quick initial sketches and a bit of back-and-forth over email, we settled on the direction the illustration needed to go in.

I think the illustration turned out OK in the end. What do you think?
