People at the gallery for my First Thursdays exhibition

First Thursdays Exhibition at The Young Blood Gallery

I was so excited | nervous | overwhelmed by the fact that I was having a real exhibition (my first!) in an actual gallery! A lot of last minute prep and panic went into getting all my illustrations finished and framed for this event. I learned a lot in the lead up to the opening night — like never ever frame your own work!! What a nightmare. Haha.

I held my first showcase at The Young Blood Gallery at the bottom of Bree Street for the April leg of First Thursdays.

For any international visitors who don’t know what First Thursdays is, here’s a little background:

First Thursdays is a public event and free to attend. Art galleries and cultural events around Cape Town’s central city stay open until 9pm or later on the first Thursday of every month, allowing anyone to explore the city on foot and experience the cultural wealth this city has to offer. There is no tour, schedule, or guided walk; that is up to you. We simply help you figure out what to see and where to go by highlighting what is happening.

Here are a few snaps from the big night:

Thanks to all my friends, family and colleagues who came out to support me. Also, a BIG thank you to whoever bought my work on the night (I honestly didn’t think anyone would buy anything)!

PS: It turns out that all of my work got sold, except for two pieces. The stoke is so real right now!
